I am Associate Professor in the Department of Security Studies & Criminology at Macquarie University. I am concurrently Associate in Research at the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies, Harvard University and Associate Fellow at the Lowy Institute. I am an associate editor for H-Diplo ISSF, Contemporary Security Policy and the Australian Journal of International Affairs. I serve on the Board of Advisors for my alma mater, the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University, and for the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations. I will be a Fulbright scholar at Georgetown University in spring 2024 through the DFAT-funded Professional Scholarship in Australian-American Alliance Studies.

I was previously an associate professor with tenure in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Hong Kong; a research fellow with the Asia-Pacific Programme at Chatham House and the East Asia Institute (Seoul) in their Program on Peace, Governance, and Development in East Asia, and a post-doctoral research fellow with the now Columbia-Harvard China and the World Program.
